About the service

A patterned floor, set out before it's fixed

Parquet and herringbone floors depend on the pattern being planned before fitting starts. Dublin Surface Works checks the subfloor and room shape, sets the pattern out from the room's centre line or a chosen focal point, and finishes every perimeter cut against the walls, doors and fittings.

01

Pattern set-out

Herringbone, chevron or block patterns are set out from the room's centre line or a chosen focal point before any piece is fixed, so the pattern stays square across the whole floor.

02

Subfloor preparation

The exposed base is checked and levelled where needed, as an uneven subfloor shows more readily under a patterned floor than under straight planks.

03

Perimeter & finishing

Every edge piece is cut to the wall, door and fitting, then finished to match the rest of the room.

Ask About Finishes

Parquet Flooring: good to know

How is parquet different from a straight-plank floor?
Parquet and herringbone use small blocks or planks laid in a repeating pattern rather than straight runs, so the layout has to be set out and squared to the room before fitting starts.
Why does parquet cost more to fit than laminate or straight-plank flooring?
Setting out a pattern, keeping it square across the room and cutting every perimeter piece to the angle takes longer than fitting straight planks, which is what the difference between €20/m² and €40/m² reflects.
Can you match an existing parquet floor?
In some cases, subject to checking the existing floor's pattern, wood species and finish during the survey.
Does parquet need to be finished on site?
Some products arrive pre-finished; others are fitted unfinished and site-sanded and coated. We'll confirm which applies to your chosen product.
Can parquet be fitted over underfloor heating?
Many parquet products can, subject to checking the specific product's heat tolerance and fitting method during the survey.
